Laboratory glassware comes in two types.
Soda and Borosilicate.
PyrexTM , SchottTM, KimaxTM and DuranTM are all brand names of Borosilicate Glass, not different types.
Common Soda Glass is the basic low cost everyday glass (picture frames / drinking glasses / windows) used for non-critical applications and is often disposable. This glass is not suitable for heating and is not as strong as Borosilicate - although you can often get away with heating, it is not gauranteed.
Borosilicate is a type which is designed for heating (thermal shock) but is more expensive.
Some of the cheapest glassware is mass produced in places such as China. Unfortunatly quality control can be somewhat erratic and at times there may be defects.
Defects in cheaper items may include air bubbles, rough edges and slight deformities
Please keep this in mind when selecting glassware to order. Some cheaper Glassware may have slight defects (we will not supply unusable glassware) however we do not replace cosmetic defects. If you need the gaurantee of defect free glassware please purchase the brand names - Note Defects are not common.
